FAQs

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY NEWBORN SESSION?

This is an important question in the newborn photography process. Newborn sessions are best done between 6-14 days of age. This is because babies are most sleepy, flexible, and easily moved during this time frame. By 6 days old, baby should be taking regular feedings and nursing mommas will have established their milk supply. In order to have your session done within this time frame, it is best to book at least 8 weeks before your due date. This ensures that I have availability around your due date as I only take a certain amount of newborns per month.

HOW CAN WE SCHEDULE A NEWBORN SESSION WHEN I DON’T KNOW WHEN EXACTLY MY BABY WILL BE BORN?

Unless you are having a scheduled c-section, it is almost impossible to know the exact date your baby will arrive. Because of this, when you book your newborn session, I will put your due date on my calendar and leave a few potential days available for you to choose from once your baby is born. I will also talk to you beforehand about your usual schedule and make sure to save days when your whole family is available if family photos are included. If your baby is born much earlier or later than the dates I have chosen, I can usually be pretty flexible with scheduling so this has never been an issue.

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR MY NEWBORN SESSION?

Much of the newborn session preparation is done by me, but there are a few things you can do before the session (and even before your baby is born) to prepare. Once your session is booked, I will send you a guide detailing what to expect during your session and a list of suggestions on how you can prepare. This includes keeping baby on a regular schedule (do not sleep deprive), giving a bath the night before or morning of, avoiding spicy foods 24 hours beforehand if breastfeeding, and sending me photos of anything you might be bringing from home to include in the pictures. As always, I am an open book and can answer any questions about the process you may be wondering about.

CAN I STILL BOOK A NEWBORN SESSION IF MY BABY IS OLDER THAN 14 DAYS?

Absolutely! My 6-14 days listed above is always preferred, but in the end, it’s just a suggestion and whenever you feel comfortable bringing your baby in for pictures, I will be ready for them. I have photographed many “older” newborns and while some poses might be more difficult, I can guarantee we will get just as many beautiful shots. Something I love about older newborns is their awareness and eye contact, as well as their ability to possibly hold their head up.

DO YOU HAVE PAYMENT PLANS?

Yes! I am willing to work with your budget. I have done weekly, and monthly payments for all types of sessions.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE THE PHOTOS?

This all depends on your session type. For newborn sessions, I will send you a proofing gallery within roughly a week of your session. This will include all of the photos taken during the session (not including duplicates, photos that didn’t turn out, bad angles, etc.). The photos will be slightly edited but I will not have edited skin, wrinkles in backdrops, or anything else that doesn’t belong in the photo such as poles, etc. From there, you will choose your selected amount of favorites depending on your package. I will fully edit them and send them back to you within 2-3 weeks. If your package includes print products, those should be ready for you a week after you receive your digitals.

For outdoor sessions, I will send a fully edited gallery within 2-3 weeks of your session. The process is the same as above, I just don’t send a proofing gallery because I do not edit skin, etc., for outdoor sessions.

When should i book my maternity session?

I always suggest maternity sessions be done between 28-34 weeks of your pregnancy. We do a lot of walking and sometimes trekking through tall grasses or wooded areas. You are going to want to feel at least mildly comfortable during your session, so I would not suggest scheduling a session any later than 34 weeks. The last few weeks of pregnancy should be dedicated to resting and mentally/physically preparing for your baby. With this being said, please contact me to book at least a month before your desired session date so I have room in my calendar to fit you in.
